Uniphos Envirotronic’s recently developed FumiSpec-Lo sulfuryl fluoride (SO2F2) low concentration leak detector which has created quite a buzz at GEAPS Exchange 2016 in Austin, Texas.
About the show and the Uniphos team
The purpose of the 2016 Expo, held February 27 – March 1, was to connect exhibitors like Uniphos with thousands of grain handling and processing professionals looking for operations solutions, explained Rahul Singh, Vice President (Business) at Uniphos Envirotronic Pvt. Ltd. Singh came from the Uniphos head office in India along with Uniphos founder Rajju Shroff to attend the Exchange. They were joined there by the U.S. team of Brent Yaschuk, CEO; Al Musser, Western U.S. Sales Manager; and Mark DelSantro of UPI.
Why FumiSpec-Lo was in high demand
The team soon discovered that the FumiSpec-Lo SO2F2 leak detector was the main topic of conversation with attendees at the Exchange. “With its ability to detect sulfuryl fluoride at the threshold limit value (TLV) of 5 ppm and lower, and its many advantages over the competition, it generated a lot of interest with the fumigators who attended this show,” said Singh.
Yaschuk added that the reason for the high level of interest with this particular audience is because SO2F2 is a highly specific fumigant used to control a number of rodents and insects such as termites, bed bugs and other wood destroying insects in addition to insects that may be transported from the field on food commodities. “This might include the navel orange worm, codling moth and chestnut weevil,” said Yaschuk, noting that SO2F2 controls all insect pest life stages, including eggs.
“Depending on the extent of the infestation, fumigation might be the only solution,” said Yaschuk, adding that the FumiSpec-Lo leak detector ensures the environment is safe for re-entry after the fumigation process is completed.
Yaschuk added that FumiSpec-Lo is suitable for applications related to personal protection and safety, and also for leak detection when used with a sampling probe.
Primary FumiSpec-Lo advantages
Amongst its advantages, the FumiSpec-Lo offers the following:
- A quick warm-up time of under five minutes
- Detection of low concentration of SO2F2
- Continuous sampling mode (without having to constantly re-fill any kind of fresh air bag)
- Long battery life of up to 16 hours of use
- Data logging capabilities (can store data such as gas concentration)
- Very light weight
“These characteristics make it an instrument of choice for users,” said Singh.
